BIRMINGHAM, AL (October 29, 2021) – The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, unveiled their official home jerseys for the 2021-22 NBA G League Season on Friday. The Squadron will wear red jerseys at home and white jerseys on the road this season.
“We’re so excited to finally share our home jerseys with Squadron fans,” said David Lane, General Manager of Business Operations for the Squadron. “Unveiling our home jerseys gets us one step closer to the fans joining us at Legacy Arena in December, and we can’t wait to see our players showcase these on the court.”
The Squadron’s red home jersey serves as nod to Birmingham, donning the vibrant red of the city’s flag - as well as the New Orleans Pelicans’ “statement” uniform. The shorts feature the Squadron’s “star” icon on one side, and the Pelicans’ “bird-de-lis” icon on the other to reinforce the strong connection between the parent club and their G League affiliate.
The Birmingham Squadron will tip off their first season in the NBA G League on the road Friday, November 5 against the Greensboro Swarm at 7:00 p.m. ET. The team will play on the road for the month of November before returning to Legacy Arena for their home opener against the Mexico City Capitanes on Sunday, December 5 at 5:00 p.m. CT.
The 2021-22 NBA G League season begins with the Showcase Cup, a 14-game competition featuring all 29 G League teams and the NBA G League Ignite. It culminates at the NBA G League Winter Showcase with the Showcase Cup Championship Game. All NBA G League team records will reset on December 27 with the start of a traditional 36-game regular season.
This Saturday, October 30, the Squadron will travel to College Park, Georgia to face the Skyhawks in a preseason scrimmage at 12:00 p.m. ET. The College Park Skyhawks are the NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks, led by Head Coach Steve Gansey. The scrimmage comes after a week of training camp for the Squadron in Birmingham and will be the first time the Squadron officially take the court.
