BIRMINGHAM SQUADRON JUMP ABOVE .500 WITH 123-109 WIN OVER TEXAS LEGENDS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 7, 2022) – The Birmingham Squadron (11-10), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, returned to Birmingham after a four-game road stretch and came up with a win over the Texas Legends (10-12), 123-109.

The Legends kept the game tight through the first half, but a 41-point third quarter by the Squadron pushed the team to victory. Birmingham’s 41-point performance in the third is tied for the second most in a single quarter by the Squadron this season. In fact, Birmingham has excelled in the third quarter all season long. The team averages 29.9 points in the third quarter this season, tied for second in the league.

The return of forward Zylan Cheatham, guard Jared Harper and forward Trey Murphy III helped lift the Squadron to victory as the trio accounted for 55 total points in the game, led by Murphy III with 24 on 8-for-16 from the field.

Both center Zach Hankins and Cheatham tallied double doubles in the game, Cheatham with 15 points and a team-high 14 rebounds and Hankins with 16 points and 10 rebounds. This was the seventh game this year that Birmingham had two players post double-doubles in a game, and the Squadron are 7-0 in those contests.

For Texas, Justin Jackson led the team with 32 points and added four rebounds one assist and one steal. Jackson also shot a very efficient clip from the field, 58.8% on 10 of 17 attempts.

Birmingham will play at Legacy Arena again on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. against the Iowa Wolves (10-10) before facing the Legends again in Frisco, TX on Saturday.
