SQUADRON SNAG SIXTH STRAIGHT WIN, DEFEAT GO-GO 126-115 AT NBA G LEAGUE WINTER SHOWCASE

LAS VEGAS (December 19, 2021) – The Birmingham Squadron (8-5), NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, notched their sixth-straight win, defeating the Capital City Go-Go (6-7) 126-115 in their first of two games at the 2021 NBA G League Winter Showcase.
Accurate shooting from Birmingham proved to be the key to victory, as the team posted their highest single-game field goal percentage this season, a clip of .551 on 43 of 78 attempts, also the 13th-best shooting performance by a G League team this season.
The Squadron also shot a season-high 44.1% from behind the arc on a season-high 19 of 43 attempts. Their 19 made threes are tied for the 10th most in a single game in the league this season.
Leading the way offensively for the Squadron was forward Malcolm Hill who scored 25 points on a very efficient 10 of 14 attempts from the field (.714), including 5-for-8 from behind the arc (.625). Hill added four rebounds and one assist in the contest.
Birmingham got the win despite being out-rebounded by Capital City 47 to 28 as well as giving up 64 points in the paint. Guard Jordan Schakel led the Go-Go with 20 points, and adding two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Two Go-Go players posted double-doubles including center Jamie Echinique who recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds, as well as guard Cassius Winston who posted 17 points and 10 assists.
Six Squadron players scored in double figures in the contest including Hill (25), guard Jared Harper (22), guard Jose Alvarado (21), forward Zylan Cheatham (17), guard Joe Young (17) and guard Ra’Shad James (16). Cheatham also logged his fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
The Birmingham Squadron now look ahead to their matchup against the Grand Rapids Gold tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. CT, the final matchup of their two-game Winter Showcase run. The game will air live on ESPNews.
