BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 10, 2022) - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, announced today that the team has acquired guard Justin Wright-Foreman. Earlier this week, the team also added guard Sam Cunliffe.

Wright-Foreman (6-0, 190), joins the Squadron as a returning rights player after spending the 2020-21 season with the Erie Bayhawks under current Squadron Head Coach Ryan Pannone. Under Pannone in the G League bubble, he played in 15 games and averaged 12.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists.

Over the last year and a half, Wright-Foreman has played overseas in France and Turkey. This season in Turkey with Aliaga Petkim Spor, he played in 14 games and averaged 16.8 points (second on the team), 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists (third on the team).

The Laurelton, New York native was originally a second-round NBA Draft pick (53rd overall) out of Hofstra in 2019, where he was signed to a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz. In his rookie season, Wright-Foreman played in four games with the Jazz and 36 games with their G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars. With the Stars, Wright-Foreman averaged 17.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 28.1 minutes per game.

Guard Sam Cunliffe (6-6, 200) joins the Squadron after spending the first part of the 2021-22 season with the Wisconsin Herd, the G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks. In 14 total games with the Herd, Cunliffe averaged 6.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 0.5 steals in 15.6 minutes per game.

Cunliffe was ranked a top-50 high school player in the nation out of Seattle, Washington and played one season at Arizona State University (2016-17) before transferring to Kansas University for one season (2017-18), and finally Evansville University (2018-19).

The Squadron’s roster now stands at 13 for their home matchup against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (10-4) on Saturday Night at 7:00 p.m. CT in Legacy Arena.
